18 injured as residents target local train

Eighteen people including some policemen were injured in a clash between two groups after residents of Aman Vihar targeted a local train at Nangloi in West Delhi on Friday. While two cases have been registered, the police have so far arrested 10 persons and apprehended two juveniles.

The incident took place around 7-30 a.m. when residents of Prem Nagar in Aman Vihar gathered near the Nangloi railway station and soon after the Rohtak-Tilak Bridge shuttle train reached there, started pelting stones at the passengers.

Some angry passengers also jumped out of the train and hurled stones at the other group. What followed was a free for all. “The Railway staff alerted the police and security personnel. The situation was soon brought under control. However, 18 people were injured. Some of the victims were admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and the rest taken to another hospital,” said an official.

Enquiries by the police revealed that the clash was fallout of a brawl inside the same train on Thursday night between some residents of Prem Nagar and regular passengers over some issue. It is learnt that after they were roughed up, the Prem Nagar residents called up their friends who joined in but were also beaten up.

The police suspect that to take revenge, the locals then decided to target the train on Friday morning.
