Thirteen children allegedly employed in various shoe factories in West Delhi’s Tikri Kalan were rescued in a joint operation conducted by the Delhi Police, some government departments and an NGO on Thursday. The factory owner has been arrested.
A joint operationIt was conducted by the police along with officials of the Revenue Department, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, the Labour Department and NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
Shoe factories sealed“On Thursday, we raided four factories situated in Tikri Kalan village and rescued 13 children. They were employed as labourers in the shoe factories owned by Rohit Gupta, Satender Kumar, Ajay Kumar Pandey and Pradeep Kumar Acharjee. The children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee and on its direction, they have been handed over to Mukti Ashram in Keshav Nagar.
These factories have been sealed by officials of Labour the Department. The rescued children belong to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and were employed in the factory through their relatives and acquaintances,” said a senior police officer.
Search on for other ownersOne of the factory owners, Pradeep Kumar Acharjee, was arrested and search is on for the other two. All face charges under provisions of the Child Labour Act, 1986, and the Juvenile Justice Act.
