Accused hit victim on the head with an iron rod, say police
The watchman of a warehouse near Podanur Railway Kalyana Mandapam was found murdered on Friday morning.
The Podanur police, who have registered a case in this connection, have arrested the accused.
According to K. Ramachandran, Assistant Commissioner of Police, South, residents called up the Podanur police complaining that they had found a person lying dead in a warehouse near the Mandapam.
When the police went to the location that was indicated by the residents, they found A. Appusamy Gounder, 52, lying dead in a pool of blood.
He had sustained injuries on the head and stabs on the neck.
The police, who began the investigation, found that one of the employees of the contractor who had taken the warehouse on lease from the Railways was missing.
Their search for the employee led them to A. Mani, 21.
A native of Krishnagiri, Mani, an electrician, stayed in the nearby locality.
Mr. Ramachandran said that during interrogation, Mani confessed to murdering Appusamy around 3.30 a.m. on Friday while resisting attempts to have sex with him.
While returning home from Coimbatore, Appusamy reportedly lured Mani to the warehouse on the pretext of lifting a bag of goods.
There, Mani resisted Appusamy’s advances and in the process a fight broke out between the two.
Unable to get away from his clutches, Mani hit Appusamy on the head with an iron rod in the warehouse.
He also stabbed him twice on the neck with the knife he had.
Mr. Ramachandran said that the knife was the one electricians used to cut wires.
Based on Mani’s confession, the Podanur Police recovered the iron rod, the knife and also the bloodstained clothes. The police recovered the clothes from his house.
The police registered the case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Mani.
