Young Scientist Programme begins

The Young Student Scientist Programme, an annual initiative aimed at encouraging Government school students to take up to science, began in the city on Monday.

Hosted by the PSG College of Arts and Science, the initiative is also supported by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology.

According to a press release, the camp, which will be held for a total of 15 days from 27th April 2015 to 11th May 2015, is for students of Government and aided schools of Coimbatore and the Nilgiris districts.

A total of 40 students from Coimbatore and 43 from the Nilgiris are taking part in the residential programme.

It is focussed on enthusing students to look up to a career in science.

The sessions have been planned to be a fun way learning of science and experimental understanding of science that will create an interest in science learning, organisers said.

With the objective of giving an exposure to science and technology, the students will be taken to places such as ITC Speciality Paper Boards and other industries, GD Museum and Regional Science Centre. Students will also be encouraged to take up science and technology model making / projects, which will be exhibited during the valedictory.

Special training will be given in various subjects. Both theoretical and practical classes are part of the training. Experts will interact with the students.
