Work on to construct Dhyana Mandapam in Thiyaganur village in Thalaivasal Taluk in the district is nearing completion and expected to be over in a few months.

A large sculpture of a lotus flower in full bloom would be constructed inside the mandapam and the 11th century Buddha statue would be placed on it.

The structure was estimated to cost Rs. 50 lakh and funds were mobilized from industrialists and voluntary contributors.

The mandapam is expected to attract tourists in large numbers as people visiting Bhairavar Temple in Aragalur would also visit the mandapam.

The statue had been lying in an agricultural field without maintenance over the past centuries.

Efforts by local villagers led to the implementation of the project with the support of the district administration.

Collector K. Maharabushanam visited the works along with District Revenue Officer N. Prasanna Venaktesan, Revenue Divisional Officer (Attur) Muthuramalingam and contributors on Thursday. Mr. Maharabushanam said that once the mandapam was completed, the place would be converted into a tourist spot and basic infrastructure would be created.
