The district administration launched here on Wednesday the work to put up a massive enclosure and stage for the World Classical Tamil Conference that will be held from June 23 to 27 at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex.

District Collector P. Umanath launched the work in the presence of the district-level Special Officer for the event S. Prabhakaran.

The administration said in a release that a 4.4 lakh sq.ft. enclosure would be put up in front of the trade fair complex. The stage would measure 4,800 sq.ft.

Work to level 87.65 acres – the space for the enclosure and the venue for the Tamil Internet conference – had already begun, the release said.

Arrangements were on to providing seats for 50,000 delegates/invitees.

On either side of the enclosure, 20 feet wide space (running to a length of 1,000 ft) would be provided for the general public.

Two small stages would be put up for cultural events.

Separate sections would be earmarked for special invitees, mediapersons and the audience.

Eye-catching decorations would be provided at the conference venue. Two spacious rooms would be provided behind the stage for VIPs.

Four big LED televisions and 100 plasma televisions would also be installed throughout the venue so that everyone present at the massive trade fair centre could see what was happening at the conference spot.

Security cover

The Coimbatore City Police have brought the CODISSIA campus under a security cover.

A release from the police says they have opened an outpost, which will be manned by an officer and eight policemen. Another outpost has been opened from where a similar number of personnel will monitor the construction work.

A bomb disposal and detection squad with four sleuths are conducting anti-sabotage check on a daily basis. Sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service.

A patrol team will monitor movement of strangers.

The release says all CODISSIA employees have been given identity cards to enter the premises and their entry is videographed. Antecedents of workers are also being verified. Soon the complex will be brought under surveillance. Cameras will be installed and monitoring will be done from a control room.
