Women steal gold ring from jewellery outlet

April 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Two unidentified women aged about 40 stole a gold ring from a leading jewellery outlet, on Big Bazaar Street, and replaced it with a fancy ring. Ukkadam police said the incident took place on Tuesday. But, staff in the outlet came to know about it only on Friday.

According to the police, inquiry revealed that the women went to the gold ring section of the outlet and were having a look at a rack that had rings.

It is learnt that the staff was occupied with a few other customers when the two women quickly took the ring weighing a little more than 10 grams and replaced it with a similar fancy ring.

The women then left the outlet without making a purchase. Three days later the staff grew suspicious during an audit while comparing the available stock of jewellery with that on display.

On testing the ring they came to know that it was a fake one and lodged a complaint.
