Students of Shri Shakthi IET prove their might in kayaking, held as part of International Women's Day celebration, at the Sulur Lake in Coimbatore.

It was a quiet and cold morning. Yet, the Shri Shakthi IET women were out of bed early. It was an opportunity that they did not want to miss. The institute management had organised kayaking, jet-skiing, riding cruise bikes and horses, driving jeeps and swimming as part of the International Women’s Day celebration.

Titled the ‘Powerpuff Girls’, the event, aimed at empowering women through a series of adventure sports, turned out to be a smashing hit. “It was a great experience. For most of us it is first time. And, we enjoyed every moment of it,” the Shri Shakthi girls voiced in unison.

Training

“A team of experts from Royal Enfield (Sheriff Motors) trained us for about three days on the nuances of riding bullet bikes and it was awesome,” said N. Santhoshpriya. “We did slow riding as well,” said M. Sanjhanaa.

“We not only got to know the working principles of the bike but also had a wonderful ride from our college to Race Course and back,” said S. Vinitha Sri and P.K. Tharshana. “I have never done kayaking before and, for me, it was a dream come true,” said V. Shobana.

A. Ooviya, who participated in three events, said they were out to prove the men wrong. “And, we could not have got a better opportunity than this one.” It's not an easy task handling horses but the girls seemed to do it with aplomb. “That's because we went through special classes. It took some time but once we learnt to communicate with the horses then the rest came easy,” said A. Amalajoylet.

“After participating in the events, we walked with our heads held high,” said Santhoshpriya.
