R. Suma, mother of Lisha, employed in a hotel at Gudalur, on Saturday sought the help of the district administration and the government to bring her 23-year-old daughter, working as a domestic help in Saudi Arabia from June last year, to India.

In a petition to the Nilgiris district administration, Suma said that Lisha, who got married to a man at Mettur in Salem District about four years ago got separated and was living with her and three-year-old son at Mankuzhi, near Gudalur.

“To support the family she tried to get a job abroad,” Suma told The Hindu .

Domestic help

With the help of an agent in Gudalur she got a job as domestic help in Saudi Arabia. “On going there on June 4, 2015, she worked in a couple’s house where the landlord tried to misbehave with her in the absence of his wife,” the petitioner alleged.

Through the friend of the agent, Lisha secured a job in another couple’s house. She alleged that Lisha was subjected to harassment by her employer.

“She spoke to me last Tuesday and was in tears. We never spoke since then and her mobile was switched off,” her mother said.

On Saturday, she got a call from a man hailing from Tamil Nadu, stating that Lisha had escaped from her employer’s place and that the caller helped her reach the Indian Embassy there. Suma informed the agent in Gudalur, who helped her daughter in getting a job.

Police complaint

“He (agent) called the employer from whose house Lisha managed to escape. But, the employer accused her of stealing 10,000 Riyal from his house. He had also told the agent that he will lodge a police complaint if Lisha failed to return to his house.”

Suma is clueless about the whereabouts of Lisha.

In the absence of the Collector, the petition was submitted to other officials, who had assured Suma of necessary action to bring her daughter back home.
