Ghouse Begum, wife of Nazeer Ahamed, was robbed of her jewellery weighing 25 sovereign at her house in Thudiyalur police station limits on Saturday night.
According to the police, the incident happened when Mr. Ahamed was not at home. Two persons, who entered the house, had gagged Begum, sprayed a chemical that made her fall unconscious and then removed the jewellery she was wearing.
The police said that the incident happened between 8.45 p.m. and 10 p.m. The crime came to light only when Mr. Ahamed returned home to find his wife lying unconscious.
He took her to a hospital, where, after treatment, she narrated the incident. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case.
Kuniamuthur Police on Saturday removed 18 members of Naam Tamilar Katchi for tearing a banner featuring Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy. The police said that the outfit members targeted the banner that was put up outside a college where Mr. Swamy addressed students.
The outfit’s district youth wing organiser Vijayaraghavan led the protests. The protestors’ allegation was that Mr. Swamy acted against the interests of the Tamils.
All Woman Police (Central) have charged trader Amrish Badath with cheating a woman by promising to marry her. The police said that the woman had lodged a complaint saying that Badath after exploiting her, refused to marry her. He had also threatened her and her children. The police said that based on her complaint, they had registered a case under Section 417 and 506(i) of the Indian Penal Code.
Ramanathapuram Police have arrested Nandha Kumar, 29, and Kannan, 29, of Vivekananda Street, Ramnagar, on charges of stealing automobile spare parts from a shop near Sungam By-pass. The police said that the two had stolen the spare parts from Vasudevan’s shop a few days ago. Based on investigation, they arrested the two and sent them to remand.
