Woman, infant run over by train near Thudialur

A 26-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were run over by the Chennai – Mettupalayam Blue Mountain Express near Thudialur NGGO Colony on Thursday.

According to the railway police, the deceased were identified as Masthika Devi and her second son Ram Babu. The police suspected that the woman had committed suicide by jumping in front of the train, after she was reportedly harassed by her mother-in-law last night. It is being inquired to ascertain whether the woman along with her child was sent out of home and they had to wait the whole night in front of the house. The victim’s husband, Santhosh Kumar, a casting contractor, had gone out of station, when the incident took place. The police, who inquired the loco-pilot, said that the woman had apparently made a last minute effort to throw the child, but in vain.

Killed in accident

Muthupandi of Dindigul district, who was recently posted to the Sulur air base from Jammu and Kashmir, was fatally knocked down by a sand laden lorry coming from Tiruchi to Coimbatore, when the victim was heading home to Neelikonampalayam from Sulur on his motorcycle.

The accident took place at Pappampatti Junction. Investigations are on.

Woman held

The police arrested Selvi (32) on the charge of selling ganja in Pappanaickenpudur. Further investigation is on.
