Posing as a doctor, a miscreant managed to take away 25-sovereign gold jewellery from an aged patient in a private hospital, near the Coimbatore Airport, on Wednesday.

The Peelamedu Police have registered a case. The police said that K. Latha (62) of Jawahar Nagar in Karur district got admitted in the hospital on Wednesday morning. “The man posing as a doctor came to the room after sometime and asked her husband and relatives to get medicines from pharmacy. On entering the room, he asked Latha to remove her jewellery. She kept them below her pillow,” Inspector K. Venkatraman said. After giving injection, he asked her not to turn around and left the place. “Later, when the doctor came, the patient and her relatives grew suspicious and found the jewellery worth about Rs. 5.5 lakh missing,” he added.
