Unconscious even after several hours of post-surgical care
Relatives of a 35-year-old woman refused to accept her body at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
She had died following surgery performed at a private hospital in North Coimbatore.
Sources said Loganathan admitted his wife Balamani in the private hospital for surgery to remove a tumour in her neck.
Relatives alleged that the procedure had gone wrong, leaving the patient unconscious even after several hours of post-surgical care.
She was referred to another hospital which stated that her condition had deteriorated.
When she died, the body was brought to the CMCH for post-mortem examination.
Relatives refused to accept the body, stating that the death was the result of negligence and demanded action against the hospital and the doctors who had performed the surgery. Following the intervention of police and revenue officials, relatives took the body for cremation. Police have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances.
City Police have registered a case of 304 (a) (Negligence causing death) of Indian Penal Code against a private hospital in R.S. Puram area in connection with the death of a five-year-old boy Aditya (5) after an operation in the throat.
The boy, son of Arumugam and Poornima of Selvapuram North Housing Unit, failed to recover from sedation after the surgery and died.
It was alleged that severing of a blood vessel caused the death.
The boy, who was referred to another hospital in Avarampalayam, died there.
Pursuing a complaint from the parents, police registered a case against the doctor of the R.S. Puram private hospital and further investigations are on.
