Saibaba Colony police have arrested Meenatchi alias Aarathal, 40, of Suleswaranpatti on charges of having played a role in the kidnap of six-year-old Karthikayani. The police had already arrested two persons and rescued the girl.

The police said that they first arrested S. Selvam of Dindigul district on July 10 after he kidnapped the girl a day earlier when she was returning home. The incident happened near Kovilmedu. After his arrest, the police, led by Inspector R. Sreenivasulu, conducted a thorough investigation following directions from superior officers and arrested Selvam’s accomplice V. Subramani of Karumathampatti.

Later, after taking Selvam in police custody for interrogation, the police learnt that the two kidnapped the girl at the behest of Aarathal with the intention of pushing her into beggary.

The police said that after her arrested, they had sent her to judicial custody. They also sent Selvam into judicial custody.
