Actor Silambarasan, popularly known as Simbu, took a close look at the citizen-driven measures to conserve water bodies here on Thursday and declared that he would launch a State-wide campaign for protecting these resources.

The visit to strengthen his “Cauvery Campaign”, comes on the heels of his “unite for humanity” talk that went viral in the social media and was aimed at creating a goodwill among the people of both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka when tempers ran high on either side of the border over the Cauvery issue.

Mr. Silambarasan approached the Salem Citizens’ Forum to have a look at their works to conserve water and protect water bodies.

Accompanied by convenor of the forum Piyush Manush, the actor visited the picturesque Mookaneri lake, one of the five water bodies taken up by the forum in and around Salem city.

He had a coracle ride in the lake and later spoke to farmers and villagers here who opposed land acquisition for the Kaamalapuram airport.

He assured solidarity with them. The actor later told presspersons that he planned to launch an awareness campaign for the protection of water bodies across the State, on the lines what was being done in Salem.
