The proposed “Green Corridor” project by synchronising the 11 signals from JM Bakery to KMCH will decongest Avanashi Road. Placing barricades as road medians, installing new signals, providing for pedestrian crossing on arterial roads, and making a few roads as one-ways to ensure free flow of traffic, are under the city police's consideration. A new traffic signal in Chinniyampalayam will be inaugurated soon to further ease traffic congestion.

In providing a transport solution for the city, the Corporation's aim should be to move people away from private to public transport. For that to happen, the quality of service has to be good. And for the quality to be good, the city must have dedicated bus corridors where buses will move fast with necessary safety features. Plus, the Corporation should also think about lanes for non-motorised transport, widen junctions, provide parking bays, etc. In doing so, it must engage with stakeholders in a serious manner.

Driving on Avanashi Road has become cumbersome over the years, thanks to the increase in the number of passengers, vehicles and signals. It is difficult to negotiate the traffic and also keep up the time. To drive from Gandhipuram to Muthukavundanur, the Corporation has given us 40 minutes, which is unrealistic. It should have allotted at least an hour-and-a-half. And, there is competition with the private bus operators. On Avanashi Road, if there is a dedicated bus lane, it will be excellent.
