The Annual Rose Show is scheduled to be held over the coming weekend and the Flower Show a fortnight later, but officials of the Horticulture department who are putting together the shows expressed their concern over the wet-weather and overcast conditions, that can affect the shows.
Though the wet conditions are very helpful to the farming community, this weather may adversely affect the flowers.
Since the roses are already in bloom and the other flowers are in various stages of blooming, the venues will present a healthy look only if the rainfall pattern changes. A break from this present climate would be most welcome, sources told The Hindu here on Thursday. As a measure of precaution, beds with flowers like petunia and Inca Marigold which rot easily in rain have been covered with plastic sheets at the Government Botanical Garden, venue of the Flower Show.
