Carnatica Archival Centre for Music and Dance is organising a week-long music festival at the Kikani Higher Secondary School here from November 18 (Thursday).
K.N. Shashikiran, eminent musician and Managing Trustee of the Centre, told The Hindu that this annual pan-Indian musical extravaganza — Bru Bharat Sangeet Utsav — would be inaugurated by Swami Dayananda Saraswathi. The inaugural concert would be that of vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyam.
Renowned artistes
The festival would also feature performances of renowned artistes like Vijay Siva, Anooradha Sriram and Sri Ram Parasuram, Visakha Hari, T.N. Krishnan and Viji Krishnan, Ranjani and Gayathri, P. Unnikrishnan, S. Sowmya, Nithyasree Mahdevan, Suryaprakash, Udayalur Kalyanarama Bhagavathar, Maharajapuram Ramachandran and Papanasam Ashok Ramani. Lakshman Sruti orchestra would also contribute its mite. Besides, there would be a dance performance by Lavanya Shankar with special vocals by Carnatica brothers Shashikiran and P. Ganesh, and a special thematic dance presentation titled ‘Peacock Blue' by Anjana Anand, Sheethith Krishna, Gowri Ramnarayan and Bharathi Ramasubban.
Quizzes
There would be quizzes for the rasikas on all days of the festival which concludes on November 24. Bru Select awards would be given away to the prize-winning rasikas. Apart from these, a special Rasikas' Award (for connoisseurs) with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 had been instituted and it would be given to the rasika who gave the best feedback after the concerts. Mr. Shashikiran said that this was the first time that this Utsav was being held in Coimbatore.
