Weaver booked for violating Handloom Regulation Act

The Coimbatore District Rural Police have booked R. Kalimuthu (55) of Unjapalayam near Somanur for violating the Handlooms (Reservation of Articles for Production) Act, 1985.

Police said he was operating several power looms at a godown in Somanur and was producing cloths and saris without permission.

Following a complaint from V. Chandrasekaran, Assistant Director, Handloom Enforcement (wing 1), Tirupur, the Karumathampatty Police registered a case on Monday under the Handooms Regulation Act. The machinery and the garments have been seized.
