Water supply will be restored soon, assures Coimbatore Corporation

The past few days’ protest in various pockets in the city against the poor supply of drinking water will not recur, assure Coimbatore Corporation officials. Residents took empty pots to the streets to protest against irregular water supply. The Coimbatore City Police and the Corporation officials had a tough time pacifying the agitated residents.

Sources in the civic body said that the civic body was unable to maintain water supply in the last few days because of a pipeline burst and leak in the Pilloor I drinking water supply system. The TWAD Board was forced to suspend water supply on May 2 and 3 to the city. It was able to restore supply only on May 4. The sources said that because of the two-day disruption in supply, the Corporation was not able to go ahead with the existing supply cycle, which pushed water supply to residents beyond the regular once in four or five days supply. The Corporation was gradually restoring the water supply to the regular supply cycle and that in the next few days the supply would be back to normal.
