Water packaging unit in Coimbatore sealed

A team of food safety officers conducted raid and sealed a water packaging unit in the city on Thursday with immediate effect.

Insect

This followed a complaint by a consumer who claimed that an insect was found in one of the sealed containers supplied to him by the firm.

Improvement notice

Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (Food Safety Wing) Designated Officer R. Kathiravan said that an improvement notice was served on the unit, located near Indhira Nagar on Sungam By-pass Road, following an inspection.

Production

The unit had been directed to cease production for at least 15 days.

A decision on allowing it to resume production would be taken after a follow-up inspection.
