The last of the 100 ward-Coimbatore Corproation, Ward 100 forms the southern and south-eastern boundary of the civic body. The Ward that extends from Chettipalayam Road in the north to Eachanari-Chettipalayam Road in the south and from Madukkarai Road in the west to Carmel Nagar in the east, it is home to over 20,000 people.

It is also numerically the last of the ‘added area’ wards in the civic body. Five years ago, the area that is now Ward 100 was spread over three wards in the then Kurichi Municipality - wards 10, 15 and 16 covering Mettur, Ganesapuram, Eachanari, Annapuram, Mullai Nagar, Ayyappa Nagar and a few other areas.

Compared to neighbouring wards, Ward 100 is well-off when it comes to water supply as the Corporation taps the main supply line to feed the residents, says former Councillor B. Venugopal. The same holds good for ground water supply as well, as the Corporation taps water from 16 open wells in addition to bore wells. But problems do remain, counters G. Mahalingam, a resident of Eachanari. In the Ward, the Corporation is notorious for not fixing leaks. The result is that the residents in his area, nearby Mettur and Ganesapuram get water only once in 20 - 25 days.

The other demand that the residents want the civic body to address on a priority basis is stormwater drainage construction. S. Prakash of Ayyappa Nagar Phase II, says that the Corporation should complete drainage construction and start cleaning drains at places it had constructed.

Buvanesh Chandrasekar of Ganesapuram also has a similar demand.

Sources say that one of the reasons for poor drainage maintenance is shortage of conservancy workers, which they will address at the earliest.

The Corporation has also initiated the process to construct drains in Muthu Nagar, Mullai Nagar, Kurichi Housing Unit Phase II, Carmel Nagar, Ayyappa Nagar and other areas not covered with the facility.

As part of the drainage maintenance operation, the Corporation should also pay attention to the natural drain that flows through the ward to Eachanari. It is one of the biggest drain and if maintained well, a number of residential localities will escape inundation, says Mr. Mahalingam.

In Kurichi Housing Unit Phase II the civic body should install street lights at the earliest and also on Madukkarai Market Road, says resident G. Athi Pandian. The other demand is for a toilet for residents in Harijan Colony.
