Every voter should exercise his or her franchise to ensure cent per cent voter participation, said Principal District Judge N. Seshasayee at a function organised here on Sunday to observe National Voters’ Day.

A release from the district administration said that Mr. Seshasayee told participants at the PSG College of Technology that such participation would strengthen democracy and thereby make India a powerful country, for not only was tomorrow’s India in people’s hands but also today’s India.

The voters exercising franchise reflected their faith in democracy and were a manifestation of patriotism, which was needed for bettering the country.

District Revenue Officer T. Christuraj administered the National Voters’ Day pledge to the participants.

College and school students highlighted the need for voting through skits they performed as part of the cultural activities.

The district administration also gave away prizes to students.

Earlier in the day, Collector Archana Patnaik flagged off an awareness rally that saw the participation of students from PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Dr. NGP Arts and Science College, Nirmala College for Women and Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science.

Senior Coimbatore Corporation and district administration officials participated in the programme.

At the Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, students took the National Voters’ Day pledge.

They promised to exercise their franchise, said a press release.
