Visit to NMR Museum marks World Heritage Day

Short videos, slides on NMR and its heritage value screened for visitors

On account of the World Heritage Day, hundreds of students, rail enthusiasts and tourists visited the Nilgiri Mountain Railway Museum at Mettupalayam on Wednesday.

Salem Division of the Southern Railway celebrated the day at the NMR Museum where the Nilgiris Mountain Railway bagged the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site title, an official said.

Theme

The theme for this year is ‘Heritage for Generations’. Children and senior citizens in and around Mettupalayam area were invited to the NMR Museum and were shown around the artefacts displayed there. On this occasion, short videos and slides on the NMR and its heritage value were screened for the visitors. Students from the nearby Holy Angels Matriculation School enjoyed viewing the items displayed and were told about the value and importance of heritage.

On behalf of the Salem Railway Division, Coimbatore Station Director R. Sathesh Saravanan and Assistant Divisional Mechanical Engineer Deeksha Choudry were present at the museum, officials said.
