People in Anthiyur town are put to untold hardships due to rampant encroachment in the bus stand.

Vendors selling fruits, plastic products and various food items have occupied a major portion of the platforms in Anthiyur bus stand, forcing passengers to wait under the scorching sun. A few vendors had even established makeshift shops to sell their products on the platforms.

The bus stand witnesses a large number of passengers every day.

People from several villages come to Anthiyur as the State Transport Corporation operates buses connecting various other important towns.

People have made repeated representations to the authorities concerned to initiate action against the encroachers. “But no concrete action has been taken up to sort out the problem so far ,” people allege.

The bus stand also lacks public convenience facilities.

As the toilets are poorly maintained, people have stopped using them.

“It is very common to see people urinating in the open. We have requested the officials on several occasions to improve the sanitary conditions. But no action has been initiated till date,” people point out.

People in the town urged the Collector to take a look into the issue and remove the encroachments in the bus stand without any further delay.
