Valparai to get a boathouse

The three-day Valparai Summer Festival came to a close on Sunday. According to estimates around 25,000 people had visited Valparai in the last three days. At the valedictory function, Agriculture Minister S. Damodharan said that the State Government would initiate efforts to build a boathouse in the hill town.

It was only recently that officials from the district administration, Toursim Department, elected representatives and others inspected the spot proposed for the construction of a boathouse. Mr. Damodharan also said that the State Government would come out with an announcement regarding wages for estate workers. He also spoke about the various schemes the State Government under Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had announced and implemented in the last two years.

He addressed the gathering in the presence of Member of Parliament Sukumar, District Revenue Officer K. Karpakam, Member of Legislative Assembly, Valparai, K. Arumugham and representatives of the various associations.

The Horticulture Department had organised a flower show as part of the event. The Tamil Nadu State milk cooperative federation (Aavin), Forest Department, Tantea and other Government establishments had put up stalls.
