US professor dies on Coimbatore railway platform

A 58-year-old professor teaching at a university in the U.S., swooned and died on the railway station platform here on Friday night, while he was waiting to board a Chennai-bound train, police said.

Srinivasa Suresh, along with his wife had come to Chennai on a personal visit and had gone to a relative's house in Salem.

After leaving his wife at Salem, Prof. Suresh came to the city for some personal work and was scheduled to board the Nilgiris Express to Chennai, asking his wife to board it from Salem.

As he was about to board the train, leaving at 9 p.m., he suddenly swooned at the platform and was rushed to the government hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police added.

The body has been kept at the hospital and would be handed over to his wife after post-mortem, they said.
