Registered farmers who sell their farm produce at the Tirupur North Uzhavar Sandhai in a petition submitted to the district administration on Monday said that unauthorised vendors were regularly blocking the way to the Sandhai.

P.K. Karuppasamy, a farmer from Uthukuli who travels about 9km daily to sell his produces at the Sandhai, said that the street vendors occupying the road that lead to the Sandhai were not even leaving space for us to take the produces from the farm to the market space.

“This is affecting our sales and livelihood. Many of the unauthorised street vendors are the ones who have been evacuated in a similar situation occurred at Tirupur South Uzhavar Sandhai,” he said. Naveen Prabhu, another farmer, said that the Sandhai usually functions from 3am to 9am and the people uses the facility as they were able to get vegetables and produces at reasonably low prices. “But these unauthorised street vendors are now coming at 2am much before we arrive, and then occupy the entire road that leads to the Sandhai making it difficult for us to enter it. The customers too find it difficult to reach us,” he added.
