Officials of Coimbatore Local Planning Authority and Coimbatore Corporation sealed a building here on Saturday for not getting the building plan approval.

Member Secretary of the LPA S. Chandrasekar told The Hindu on Saturday that the officials sealed a marriage hall (Pothigai Kalyana Mandapam) that also had lodging facilities at Marudhamalai.

The total built up area was 21,000 sq.ft and it included five rooms for lodging the guests.

The building was built more than two years ago and the LPA had issued notice as it did not have the plan approval. However, no one came forward to apply for approval. Hence, action was taken on Saturday, he said.

Following a fire in April at Vigneshwar Cresta, a commercial building on Avanashi Road, the District Administration and Coimbatore Corporation identified about 200 unauthorised structures in the city and sealed about 60.

The action was stopped for about a month following appeals from the builders to the District Collector, seeking time for the building owners to take the required measures.

After a gap of nearly a month, the building with the marriage hall was sealed on Saturday.

However, when contacted by The Hindu the officials did not confirm if they would carry on with the action against unauthorised structures in the city.
