A flying squad, set up as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, seized Rs. 10.25 lakh from a person at Thoppur check post on Sunday afternoon.
Official sources told The Hindu that the money was seized from the person who told the squad members that he was going to Bangalore for buying jewellery. He hails from Villapuram area in Madurai. As he was not having any documents to support his claims, the amount was handed over to Income Tax Department for further verification, the sources said.
In Erode district, an amount of Rs. 4.80 lakh was seized at two different places on Saturday.
Sources said officials intercepted a van near Gobichettipalayam and seized Rs. 2.80 lakh from a trader. At Chennimalai, officials seized an unaccounted sum of Rs. 2 lakh from the owner of an auto-consulting firm.
Officials handed over the cash to the treasury and informed the Income Tax Department.

Flying squad personnel have seized Rs. 13 lakh in different incidents.
According to sources, the personnel intercepted a car on the Palladam – Sulur Road and recovered Rs. 4 lakh from three persons.
On the Pollachi – Palladam Road, the squad intercepted a car and seized Rs 2.50 lakh from a person. Near Kethanur, officials recovered Rs. 1.50 lakh and Rs 5 lakh from two persons.
The officials remitted the seized amounts to the treasury.
The money would be returned to them if they produced necessary documents about the source the money, the officials added.
