Two-wheelers, cars recovered in Coimbatore

The Udumalpet police on Thursday recovered 26 motorcycles and four cars stolen from different parts of Tirupur and Coimbatore districts following the arrest of Amir Amja (32), a native of Dindigul district.

A special team constituted by Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh, following the series of vehicle thefts in the recent days, arrested the accused from near Udumalpet town.

Official sources said the vehicles were lifted by the accused from Udumalpet and Pollachi areas.

Detained under Goondas Act

Collector G. Govindaraj has detained C. Ponraj (39), a resident of Gudimangalam, under Goondas Act on Thursday.

An official release said that Ponraj was involved in various crime cases registered under Gudimangalam and Gomangalam police stations.

Arrested

The Vellakoil police arrested S. Selvaraj (45), a native of Sivaganga district, on the charges of stealing a total of 35 sheep from various places.

Police sources said the accused had already sold the sheep but Rs 70,000 obtained through the sales was recovered from him. The thefts of sheep occurred between June 13 and June 24.
