Two women, Meenakshi Devi (21) and N. Sudha (29), were sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday. Public Prosecutor K.N. Subramanian said that Meenakshi Devi was convicted by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, K. Ganesan, for strangulating her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Mahalaxmi. She had a strained relationship with her husband and wanted to get married to another person. Hence, she killed her daughter. M. Sathyanarayanan, the Additional Public Prosecutor, said that the Second Additional District Judge, M. Srinivasan ordered life imprisonment to Sudha as she killed the four-year-old boy born to her second husband’s previous wife.
