The Coimbatore Local Planning Authority (LPA) continued its drive against unauthorised buildings in the city by sealing two structures on Wednesday.
An official of the LPA told The Hindu that action was taken against two commercial buildings here - one located in Saibaba Colony and the other at Vadavalli.
The building in Saibaba Colony had approval for construction of 326 sq m. (ground floor + three floors). But, 1,058 sq m was the total area constructed (basement + ground floor + three floors).
The building had violations in front, rear and side set back spaces.
Notice was served in March this year. Since there was no response, the LPA officials conveyed to the building occupants on Tuesday evening that action would be taken on Wednesday.
Since one of the occupants was a bank, the first floor of the building alone would be open for use for 15 days, the official said.
The commercial building at Vadavalli had taken panchayat approval for construction of 1,971 sq ft.
But, 7,400 sq ft was the total area constructed and without permission from the LPA. There was no response to the notice served on concerned persons by the LPA and hence, action was taken on Wednesday.
These commercial structures had several retail outlets and offices.
The official said that the building owners can appeal to the Government for approval or relaxation.
Though the LPA had identified and issued notices to several buildings in the city for violations, deviations or constructing without approval, there was no response from the building owners. Recently, the LPA took action against three buildings. Owners of two of these buildings have now appealed to the Government. The building owners respond only when action was taken, the official said.
The LPA would continue the drive against unauthorised structures.
It would take action on two to three buildings every week. It had identified about 100 structures for immediate action.
