Dispute over missing cellphone leads to murder of teenager

Coimbatore City Police have arrested a student studying in an ITI near here, and a Plus One student, on charges of murdering another student Ashok Kumar (17). According to police, the victim, a Plus One student and the accused had a dispute over the issue of the former’s cellphone going missing on Saturday.

The two accused reportedly took the victim for a drink at a desolated place off Madukkarai Road. An argument broke out among them and Ashok Kumar was beaten up badly by the two accused who later burnt the body to avoid identification.

The victim's mother had confronted the accused, her son's friends, on Tuesday over his disappearance.

A police complaint and subsequent interrogation revealed that the two had murdered the victim. The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.

The accused were remanded in judicial custody. Investigations are on.
