Two killed, three hurt in accident

Two persons were killed and three others sustained injuries when a car ran amuck hitting pedestrians, a motorcycle and a jeep before coming to halt on the Pollachi – Palakkad Road.

According to police, a car was on its way from Meenakshipuram in Kerala to Pollachi for admitting Venkatesh who attempted suicide. It is learnt that Venkatesh, who was married only three months ago, attempted suicide by hanging owing to domestic disharmony with his wife Rekha.

When the jeep was crossing Vazhanthayamaram, it first hit a motorcycle and then two pedestrians and came to a halt after hitting a jeep.

In the accident, Arumugam (45) of Makkinampatti and Manikandan (45) of Ponnayiur were killed on the spot.

Probe on into theft case

The city police are probing into a case of 130 sovereigns of gold jewellery that was reportedly stolen from a locker of a chit fund firm on Oppanakkara Street on Friday.

A director of the firm had complained that the jewellery kept in the locker was looted by breaking open the shutter and the locker, police said.
