City police on Wednesday arrested two persons on charges of stabbing Bharathia Janata Party (BJP) activist Ramanathan (33).
According to police, Ramanathan, Zonal President of the party’s Vadavalli area, was on a motorcycle when two persons intercepted him near PN Pudur and stabbed him on the hip. Teams led by Assistant Commissioner of Police R. Mutharasu (Coimbatore Central — Law and Order) nabbed the two and investigations revealed that Vijayakumar (27) and Ramesh (23) — said to be members of the party — had stabbed Ramanathan over a financial dispute.
It may be recalled that Ramanathan had filed a complaint on September 25 stating that miscreants had hurled a petrol bomb on his house on Thayumanavar Street in Vadavalli ahead of BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tiruchirapalli.
Petrol bomb
Following investigation, police arrested Ramanathan on charges of hurling a petrol bomb on his house and enacting a drama.
He was remanded in judicial custody and had just come out on bail.
Temple jewels stolen
Attempts were made to burgle Badrakaliamman Temple and Vinayakar Temple, at Unjapalayam near Somanur on Wednesday.
Quarter-sovereign gold jewellery on the presiding deity was taken away.
Two arrested
City Police have secured Tirupati (24) and Parthiban (28) in Peelamedu area. Investigations revealed that they were involved in incidents of crime, four cases of housebreaking in Peelamedu and one in Singanallur police limits.
