Two held for burglary and chain-snatching

The police on Wednesday arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in as many as three house burglaries and eight chain snatching cases that were reported in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts this year.

The accused, Syed Yusuf (44) and K. Ravishankar (28), were taken into custody from Palladam by a special team under Deputy Superintendent of Police (Tirupur sub-division) Rajaram.

Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said that 47.5 sovereign jewellery and a motorbike were recovered from the duo.

Of the eight burglaries, three took place under Tirupur North police station limit, two under Anupparpalayam station limit, two in Coimbatore city and one in Tirupur South station limit.

All the three house breaking cases solved were the ones registered by Tirupur South police.

Mr Balakrishnan said that one of the accused, Syed Yusuf, was involved in almost 90 chain snatching cases prior to his involvement in these cases. He was arrested on many occasions and even detained under Goondas Act once, he added.
