Two detained under Goondas Act in Coimbatore

The Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, A.K. Viswanathan, has detained two persons under the Goondas Act for allegedly murdering an engineer of the city on May 25, this year.

A release from the Commissioner’s office stated that a gang of four robbed gold jewellery and money from M. Ramanarayanan (30) and killed him by throwing him into a corporation dump pit at Ukkadam. “Four persons were arrested in connection with the incident and lodged in the Central Prison here. Two of them – E. Mohammed Farooq alias Farooq alias Manguni Farooq and C. Abdul Rahman – were involved in similar incidents in the past, due to which a recommendation was made to the Commissioner to detain them under the Goondas Act,” the police said. A total of 23 persons have been detained under the Goondas Act by the City Police in 2014.

House burgled Twenty-nine sovereigns of gold jewellery worth more than Rs. 6 lakh was burgled from a farmer’s house at Kelanatham village, near Kovilpalayam, on Wednesday night. The police said that they collected finger prints from the crime scene.
