Officials at the Coimbatore Corporation Zoo have released two barn owls after treating them. According to the Zoo Director, K. Asokan, members of the public handed over to them the two owls a few days ago.

The male owl suffered injuries on its legs. The female owl suffered injuries in the wings. And both were aged around five.

Mr. Asokan said that he and the staff at the zoo nursed the owls by administering antibiotics and applying ointments.

The owls responded well to treatment and recovered in a couple of days. On Saturday, as they were found to be healthy and ready to fly, they released the two nocturnal birds, he said.

The zoo authorities were also nursing a little owl. They have placed it in a burrow in a tree. Mr. Asokan said that the barn owls lived largely in urban pockets and enjoyed a lifespan of about 20 years.
