Having submitted several representations to officials at various levels and staged different forms of agitations in vain scores of Betta Kurumbas, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), of Allur Kodamoola, near Gudalur gathered in front of the Collectorate here on Monday and raised slogans in support of their demands.

M. Maaran, vice-president of the Allur Kodamoola People's Welfare Association, who led the demonstrators including many women and children, said that the area has for long lacked basic amenities but steps to redress their grievances were conspicuous by their absence.

Representations made periodically to the civic and revenue authorities for drinking water, road, and street lights have so far fallen on deaf ears.

Apart from the Betta Kurumbas, Paniyas, and Kattunaikens resided near Allur Kodamoola in Kakkundi and Allurvayal, he said.

The road leading to their villages was in an appalling condition.

The administration should ensure that title deeds were provided to the tribal people and action taken against officials who failed to safeguard their interests.
