With the completion of works on the construction of flyover at the AVR roundabout on the Namakkal-Salem-Bengaluru national highway in the city, the Highways Department has been conducting trial run of vehicles on the same.

The project has been implemented at an outlay of ₹ 86 crore for a distance of 1,300 m from AVR roundabout to Kuranguchavadi. The works commenced in 2016.

The trial run of both heavy and light vehicles is being held from Thursday. Official sources said that any shortcomings in the construction would be set right by the end of this month.

The new facility will ease traffic congestion on the national highway and also on Salem Junction main road.

Only recently, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated a similar flyover at the Tiruvavagoundanur junction constructed at an outlay of ₹ 26.77 crore.

The works on the two-tier flyover at Five Roads Junction and other flyovers at Mulluvadi gate, Shevvaipet, and Salem Steel Plant – Sago Serve junction were progressing at a fast pace, the sources said.
