To mark the Wildlife Week celebrations from October 2 to 8, the Coimbatore District Forest Department is organising a trekking expedition on Sunday (October 11) on five routes.

However, the valediction of the celebrations would be done on April 7 at 11 a.m. at Purandaradasar Auditorium in R.S. Puram and trekking expeditions are being organised on a Sunday to make more people participate in the same. A release from the District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen, said that on instructions from the Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore, R. Kannan, elaborate arrangements were made for the conduct of various competitions for students of all age groups. Winners of essay, elocution, painting, drawing competitions at the district-level were short-listed for the State-level contests being organised in Chennai. As part of the celebrations, special trekking expeditions are being organised on five routes.The trekking routes would be Narasipuram to Vaidegi falls in Pooluvampatti range besides Chinnar to Kalkothi hills, Chinnampathy to Vettumadavu falls in Coimbatore range, Mettupalayam to Keel Pilloor in Karamadai range and Ukkayanur to Pooluvapathi in Periyanaickenpalayam range. Public in all walks of life and students could take part in the trekking.

Interested persons should register their names with the District Forest Office near Highways Department Office on Tiruchi road near Rainbow theatre. For details, contact 0422-2302925. Registrations would be open only till 5 p.m. on October 9. Only 100 participants per trekking route would be accommodated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
