Forest Department officials have set up a leopard trap near Anamalai in Pollachi after it killed a couple of goats a few weeks ago.

The officials said the trap was placed near the residence of a farmer at Ramachandrapuram near Periyapodur, where the goats were killed. His house was located on Perumalsamy Malai, a hillock located between Anamalai and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR).

Hens and goats have been kept as baits. The trap was brought from the Amaravathi Range of the ATR.

As the hillock was cut off from both Anamalai and the ATR, the forest officials are planning to trap the leopard and release it into the reserve.

A leopard had entered into a residence at TANTEA estate at Cincona near Valparai in November.

In October, a camera kept at a petrol station captured images of a leopard prowling in the Valparai town area.
