In an attempt at reducing crowd at Regional Transport Offices, reducing involvement of human element and the resultant complaint of corrupt practices, the Transport Department is giving greater impetus to online remittance of taxes.
Talking to The Hindu , Deputy Transport Commissioner – Coimbatore Circle P. Muruganandan said for the last one year remittance of fee and tax was being done online for registration of new vehicles i.e., two-wheeler and four-wheelers.
Each dealer was given a login id and password so that he or she could download the form number 20 and submit it after loading the photograph of the buyer, engine number and chassis number. Now, the system was being extended for remittance of road tax by bus owners and lorry owners. If there was tax and, if any, compounding fee pending fee for violations, RTOs raised their demand online.
Vehicle owners having accounts with State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Canara Bank could remit the tax/fee using the net banking facility. Even owners of educational institution buses, corporate houses owning private service vehicles used, private bus owners and Government transport corporations were being encouraged to use the online remittance facility, Mr. Muruganandam added. The facility could be visited by logging on to >www.tnsta.gov.in .
