Urge govt. to move them out of Defence Services Staff College

Members of more than a dozen political parties and lesser known outfits staged a protest in front of the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington on Tuesday to protest against the training given to two Sri Lankan Army officers.

The 350-odd protesters led by Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam district secretaries V. Eswaran (Coimbatore), and H. Nanjan (Udhagamandalam) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi district secretaries Susi Kalaiarasan (Coimbatore) and Sahadevan (Udhagamandalam), the members of Tamil Eelam Viduthalai Manavar Kootamaipu, Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, Tamil Viduthalai Katchi, Tamil Desiya Peravai, traders’ association gathered in front of the DSSC around 11.30 a.m.

They carried placards, raised slogans and attempted to cross the Black Bridge in an attempt to enter the campus. But the district police prevented them from moving forward.

After push and pull, the police removed the protestors, including 11 women. They moved them to the Indian Medical Association hall in Wellington.

The protesters wanted the Government of India to move out the two Sri Lankan officers who are receiving training at the defence establishment in Wellington.
