Training in fire fighting, rescue operations

Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel on Wednesday conducted training in fire fighting techniques and rescue strategies to hundreds of employees of a jewellery shop on Oppanakkara Street.

Talking to The Hindu , Divisional Fire and Rescue Services Office N. Subramanian said that knowledge on fire fighting and rescue measures is a must for people who work in special buildings and multi-storied structures. The Department has been offering similar training to a number of commercial establishments, hotels, shopping complexes in a bid to reduce loss of human lives and minimise damages in the event of a fire accident.

The employees were given a demonstration on rescue using snorkel, ladder and rope, how to put out the fire on materials and also on saving people. Any private establishment interested in equipping their employees with this life saving skill, could approach the Divisional Forest Office on State Bank Road near Coimbatore Railway Junction, he said.
