Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Western Region participated in the selection exercise conducted here on Friday to select the best rescue personnel to participate in the All India Fire Service Meet, to be held in New Delhi.
According to sources, the Western Region administration, which comprises nine districts in the western part of the State, asked the best personnel from each station to participate in the selection and showcase their skills in portable pump, ladder, hydrant drill, breathing apparatus, hose drill and other tests to check their agility, speed and smartness.
The mandate was to select 15 personnel from the region who would compete with their counterparts from the North Western, Northern, Southern and Central regions in the State for selection at the national level.
They would have to score points without earning penalties for mistakes committed, the sources said. The drill went on till evening. Joint Director Shahul Hameed and District Fire Officer S.R. Chandran evaluated the personnel.
