The much awaited two-way traffic pattern on Krishnaswamy Road (earlier Brooke Bond Road) was reintroduced by the police on Saturday. Motorists have widely welcomed the old traffic pattern on the busy stretch which was made into a one-way in December 2015.
Police Commissioner K. Periaiah opened the two-way traffic pattern in the presence of Deputy Commissioners Sujith Kumar (Traffic) and G. Dharmaraj (Headquarters).
Traffic West inspector K.V. Sathasivem said that 26 persons, including four sub-inspectors from traffic police wing, were deployed on the road to assist motorists and control the traffic on the first day. They were posted at 13 locations. At Avinashi flyover, the police guided motorists to make use of the new traffic pattern.
Mr. Sathasivem said that traffic flow on the first day was smooth. Many motorists also used the underpass of the flyover to take entry to Brooke Bond Road.
The police have also enabled timers at three traffic signals on Brooke Bond Road to control vehicles plying from Avinashi flyover to Chinathamani junction. Timers were activated at signals at Devanga high school road junction, Kikani junction and Chinthamani junction.
“The new arrangement will save the time of motorists,” said M. Siddharth, a motorist.
The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam thanked the Mr. Periaiah for accepting their demand and opening two-way traffic on the Brooke Bond Road. A resolution in this regard was passed at its district committee meeting held here on Saturday, said a release from Su. Palanisami, president of the sangam.
