Traffic on National Highway 47 (Ernakulam – Bangalore) was diverted on Thursday after a tanker lorry carrying close to 15 tonnes of propylene gas fell on its side near Senniandavar Koil, in Karumathampatti, in the evening.
Following the incident, the police diverted traffic at the Karumathampatti four-road junction.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the scene and made efforts to maintain the temperature by pumping water and foam on the tanker.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the operation to lift the tanker needed to be done cautiously.
Authorities plan to start it early on Thursday.
