Hollow block trader Satheesh Kumar was found murdered on a vacant land on the Eachanari-Madukkarai Road on Sunday morning. According to the Podanur police, the residents of the area alerted them saying that a man was lying dead with stab injuries. The police, who rushed to the spot, conducted investigations and sent the body for post-mortem examination, said that it appeared that the accused had stabbed Satheesh Kumar on the neck, shoulder and a few other places. Prior to stabbing him to death, they had also sprayed chilli powder on his eye.
The police found Satheesh Kumar’s motorcycle a little away from the spot where he lay murdered. They also recovered a knife. They said that the trader, a resident of K.K. Pudur, near Saibaba Colony, was on his way on business when the incident happened late at night. The accused should have first sprayed chilli powder on Satheesh Kumar’s eyes, which would have forced him to stop the two-wheeler. They should have then chased and stabbed him to death.
The police said that the ring Satheesh Kumar was wearing was missing.
The Podanur police pressed into service a canine sleuth, which sniffed its way for about a km from where the body lay. The police have registered a case in this connection and are inquiring if business rivalry was the reason behind the murder.
Killed in accident
Bus passenger Sivanesan alias Sivaneswaran, 28, was killed in a road accident near Sulur on Saturday when the bus was involved in an accident with a lorry.
According to the Sulur Police, the window rails of the bus pierced his body, killing him on the spot. Vimalkumar, 30, who was beside Sivanesan had his right arm severed.
The police said that the bus was on its way to Coimbatore from Tiruchi and the lorry from Coimbatore to Dindigul. Based on a complaint from the bus conductor Raveendran, the police registered a case and arrested lorry driver Saravanakumar.
Maid held
R.S. Puram police have arrested Jothi, 50, a maid, on charges of robbing her employer of jewellery and cash. The police said that when her employer Anusuya was not at home, Jothi made use of the opportunity and took away the jewellery and Rs. 20,000 in cash. Based on a complaint from Anusuya, the police registered a case, arrested Jothi and also recovered the jewellery.
Arrested
The Mahalingapuram police in Pollachi on Saturday arrested Nethaji, 29, on charges of attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman. The police said that the migrant labourer from Orissa had misbehaved with a woman. The woman raised an alarm, hearing which the residents of the area rushed to the place, nabbed Nethaji and handed him over to the Police.
Attempt to rob woman
Two persons on a motorcycle attempted to rob a woman who was returning home after work. The incident took place on Balasundaram Road on Saturday.
The police said that the woman, Thenmozhi, 48, of Tatabad, raised an alarm, which forced the accused to flee from the scene of crime leaving behind the jewellery.
Driver arrested
The Race Course police have arrested driver Narayanan, 37, of Tuticorin, on charges of robbery. The police said that Narayanan had gained entry into his neighbour Jayaprakash’s house at Pappanaickenpalayam in October 2012 and decamped with five sovereign jewellery and Rs. 50,000 in cash. The police had registered a case then. On Saturday, during a routine checking operation, the police picked up Narayanan, who, during interrogation, confessed to his involvement in the burglary.

Following a group clash at Saravanampatty Poonthottam on Saturday, the police have arrested seven persons belonging to two groups.
Probe on
Race Course police are inquiring into the alleged assault on a student of a government hostel on Balasundaram Road. The police said that a few hostel resident had assaulted Dineshkumar, 21, after he refused to obey his orders.
Worker robbed of cash
Selvakumar, an employee of a club in A.T.T. Colony, was robbed of the cash he was carrying on Saturday evening. The incident happened near the club when he was on his way home. He lodged a complaint with the Race Course police, who after a search operation, have picked up three persons for questioning.

Residents of Chellappangoundenpudur, near Perur, observed a fast on Sunday seeking an international investigation into the alleged war crimes against Sri Lankan Tamils in the island nation.
